Richard Ormond has over 20 years-experience that includes business law, real estate, banking, receivership law, cannabis regulations, commercial litigation, and restructuring. He has tried cases in State Court, Federal Court and Bankruptcy Court and he has arbitrated dozens of matters. Mr. Ormond is recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts on receivership law and other equitable solutions.
Mr. Ormond serves as the President of the California Receivers Forum and he is the former Chair of the Remedies Division of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Mr. Ormond also teaches Continuing Legal Education courses on high-yield debt issues, cannabis regulations, receivership law and securitization of intellectual property.
In 2018 Mr. Ormond was nominated for the prestigious “Leader in Law” award by the Los Angeles Business Journal and he was previously selected as one of “Los Angeles’ Top 100 Lawyers.” He is repeatedly recognized as a “Super Lawyer” and he was recently selected as one of the “Top Cannabis Law Experts in the United States” by Databird Research Journal.
In 2020, Mr. Ormond appeared in the Netflix documentary “The Business of Drugs,” Episode 5, “Cannabis.” The miniseries features 6 episodes that analyze the origins and economics of certain drugs. Mr. Ormond shares his insight and legal perspective which examines why so much of California’s cannabis sales still occur on the black market despite the legalization of marijuana.
